The suburb was once known simply as "Suspension Bridge", named for the Cammeraygal people and the arched crossing that still carries Strathallen Avenue over Long Gully.

That history shows up in the wiring.

Federation homes and Californian bungalows line the ridge streets, sitting alongside mid-century walk-up flats and newer apartment blocks nearer Miller Street. It is a genuine mix of period houses and unit stock, not one era pretending to be the whole picture.

The building history here runs in three visible waves: a pre-1940 Federation and bungalow wave on the ridge, a 1960s-1980s wave of walk-up flats, and a 2000s-present wave of new apartment stock near Miller Street.

Each wave left a different electrical inheritance behind it.

Mid-century flats often have shared meter rooms and ageing common circuits that need a strata-savvy hand.

Owners in that generation of building are increasingly asking about upgrading shared infrastructure rather than patching individual units one at a time, which changes how a quote gets scoped.

The newest apartments are the easiest job on paper, but even they need EV-ready circuits added as demand grows. Knowing which wave a property belongs to tells us almost everything about what the first visit will find, before we even open the switchboard door.
